Program Details

Ark Preschool is a non-profit, licensed, tuition free preschool located in Woodland for families meeting current federal poverty guidelines. We are open from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September through May. Children must be between the ages of 3 and 5 and must be toilet trained. We provide a balanced, play based curriculum that prepares children to thrive in Kindergarten.

Special Features of Our Program

  • Children’s sensory, vegetable, herb, and flower gardens.
  • Weekly walking trip to the Woodland Public Library to hear stories and check out books.
  • Weekly visitations from Music Matt, providing music instruction, including instrument identification, exploration, and education. Each week, children are exposed to at least 1 new instrument that Music Matt demonstrates and discusses how the sound is produced by the instrument, its history and origin, the function and care of each instrument, and the different parts of the instrument. Students also have opportunities to create instruments, discuss and explore basic music theory, and begin to discover the joys of music composition.
  • Visits from The Crocker Art Museum's Artist To Go Program 9 times throughout the school year with a professional art educator.  Children are introduced to diverse works or art. They explore basic elements of art such as color, tone, shade, tints, line, value, form, and space. Through inquiry based methods, each child can explore the elements of art to create their own works. Students begin to develop an appreciation for different genres of art.
  • 6-8 field trips each year in addition to weekly trips to the Library.
  • Weekly Children's Farmers' Market where a minimum of 5 pounds of fresh produce are donated to the families of Ark Preschool from the Yolo County Food Bank. 
  • Lunch and 2 snacks are provided for our full day program for all students. We serve mostly organic foods and fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible. 
  • Lifeskills which includes social-emotional curriculum covering: organization, friendship, cooperation, teamwork, thankfulness, respect, caring, love, courage, honesty, flexibility, perseverance, self-discipline, motivation, peaceability, and focus. 
  • Pre-reading: phonemic & phonetic awareness, rhyming, drighting & writing, and interactive reading to develop comprehension and vocabulary, math, science, puzzles, block play, carpentry, cooking, experimenting, computers, games, music, art, and physical education concepts are embedded in daily activities. 
  • Weekly take home bags which include 2-3 high quality, age-appropriate children's books and math games that nurture quality family time.

I love how my daughter is more secure about herself. She is not afraid or shy like she used to be. I think the day is balanced out perfectly. I fell comfortable at work because I know my daughter is in a safe place.
Honestly, all I can say is we would not have found a more amazing, magical, loving, imaginable, academic environment for her.

Steps to Enrollment

  1. Contact Ark Preschool at (530) 681-3103 to ask questions about our program, to arrange a visit, and to check on space availability.
  2. Call one of the referring agencies listed below to make an appointment and to ask what documents you need to bring to the appointment as proof of income. To enroll your child, you must have the Agency Referral Form completed and signed by one of the agencies below. Please, click the "Agency Referral Form" link below.

  4. When you have the completed referral form, call Ark Preschool at (530) 681-3103 to make an appointment for an intake conference. At this time, you will have an opportunity to ask any additional questions and to visit the school, if you haven’t already done so, to be sure it’s a good fit for your child and family. You will also fill out the registration documents at this time. There is usually a waiting list. Children are served on a first come first served basis. Once the paperwork is completed, and if there is space available, your child may begin attending the next day or following week. March through June is the best time to enroll your child for the upcoming school year, which begins each September. Please check the School Calendar for current year dates.

Items Needed for Intake Conference

  • Yours and your child’s social security numbers.
  • Names, addresses and phone numbers of family and friends who may pick up your child in your absence.
  • Medical Insurance information: name, policy number, phone, address.
  • Child’s birth certificate and immunization record.
  • Doctor’s and Dentist’s names, phones, addresses, if available.
  • List of medical conditions/physical restrictions, medications taken on a regular basis, known allergies.
  • Food Stamps/CALWORKS/KinGap numbers, if you receive these services.
  • Previous year's income tax return.
  • Current proof of income.
